Journey
Soberekon Datubo Ekine, popularly known as Prof. Edis is a Nigerian Afrobeat artist and Nollywood actor rooted in Kalabari Kingdom, specifically the Telema area of Minima Community in Rivers State. His path into music began not in a studio but in his local community church, where he sang as a chorister and first discovered the range of his voice. That early foundation carried him into secondary school at Kalabari National College (KNC) in Buguma, where he continued sharpening his artistry and building a sense of musical identity that would eventually define his professional output.
By 2010, Prof. Edis had taken two significant steps in the entertainment world simultaneously, releasing his first song and making his Nollywood acting debut in the film 'Stingy Friends.' Those parallel ventures established him early as a multi-disciplinary creative. Signed to Third Trial Sounds, he works within the Afrobeat genre and has built a catalog that includes 'Living God,' 'Professional,' 'Ebelebe,' 'Asa-Ti,' and 'E Don Tey.' His recorded work features collaboration with I Briggs, and together their output reflects the rhythmic energy and cultural depth that Afrobeat at its best consistently delivers. Each release adds to a body of work that traces a clear line from his churchyard beginnings to a fully realized artist operating within Nigeria's competitive music scene.
Off the recording stage, Prof. Edis channels his energy into institution-building. He serves as CEO of Prof Edis Entertainment Association, operating through PEEA.com.ng, and holds the position of Chairman of Buguma City Entertainment. These roles place him at the center of creative and organizational life in his home region, extending his influence well beyond his own discography. Whether in front of a camera, behind a microphone, or at the head of a boardroom table, his career reflects a consistent commitment to craft, community, and the long-term growth of entertainment culture in Rivers State.
